Students in the Fall of 2015 proposed purchasing and installing energy monitoring units in student housing. The purpose of this project is to reduce energy consumption within the housing complexes at CSUCI by implementing energy saving techniques and adjusting student behavior.  This will be accomplished by way of a campus wide competition that will reward the complex with the highest reduction in energy consumption. The contest will run each semester with results and progress reports given to each complex on a bi-weekly basis. To quantify reductions in consumption the team will utilize a combination of the Watt Café interface, power meters as well as traditional utility statements. Data collected will be presented as a pilot study for potential use by other higher institutions. The project was funded for $4,500. Students in the Spring of 2016 created a framework to measure the energy and promote the competition. We will continue working on implementing this project.
